Cooking supplies you will need:
- Chocolate and/or Oatmeal cookie dough mix
- Hand shape cookie cutters (optional)
- Heart shape cookie cutters
- Red icing (optional)
- Tablespoon
- Ungreased cookie sheet
- Thin metal spatula
- Wire rack
Cooking directions:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Have the children prepare the cookies according to the cookie package instructions, except for the part about the water. Ignore that. We want the dough to be stiff.
Next, roll out the dough and, using a hand-shaped cookie cutter, have the children make a hand-shape or using a knife, trace each child’s hand and cut out. Or, have the children trace and cut their hand on a manila file folder. Then, using a paring knife, lay this on the cookie dough and trace around it.
For the heart shape, cut out a heart in the middle of the hand with a heart shape cookie cutter. Or, trace and cut a heart shape from a piece of parchment paper and remove the center. Fill in heart shape with cookie dough.
Using a larger heart shape cookie cutter, we made heart shape cookies with the left over cookie dough.
After that, have the children gently lay all the cookies on a cookie sheet.
Once all The Kissing Hand cookies are on the cookie sheet, it’s time to bake. Bake The Kissing Hand cookies for about about 15 minutes.
When ready, let The Kissing Hand cookies cool for 2 minutes
Using, a thin metal spatula, place the cookies on the wire rack and let cool completely.
Lastly, have the children decorate the hearts in the middle of The Kissing Hand Cookies with red icing.
And, voila, the children have now made Kissing Hand Cookies! Let’s eat this sweet and delicious snack treat!
